Bolsonaro has been detained after authorities determined he posed a definite escape threat while under domestic detention.

The ex-president was sentenced of plotting a government overthrow in last fall and given more than over two decades in jail, but he continued under house arrest pending court reviews.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Justice Moraes said the action to imprison the 70-year-old politician was a precautionary step after fresh information came to light.

This included seeking to disable his tracking device and a call for a demonstration that could "allow for a possible escape.

Legal Document Reveals Escape Risks

In a filing authorising the detention, Justice Moraes said data from the facility tracking the former president's confinement suggested the former leader's plan to remove the electronic ankle bracelet to guarantee victory in his getaway".

This, it said, would be assisted by the chaos caused by the protest called by his child.

His offspring, Flávio, who serves as a legislator, called for a meeting of his supporters near the former president's residence to take place on Saturday evening.

The senator wrote on digital networks on last Friday: "Are you going to fight for your homeland, or observe everything from your phone there on your settee? I call on you to struggle with us."

He said the gathering would be so backers could "pray for his physical condition and for the return of democracy in our country."

Diplomatic Refuge Fears

Part of the judge's decision was the possibility of Bolsonaro's transfer to foreign missions near the dwelling, considering that the investigations revealed a history of arranging to seek refuge through a embassy office", a statement said.

The court filing highlights that the United States embassy in the capital, Brasilia, is located around approximately 13 kilometers from Bolsonaro's home.

Worldwide Consequences

The former president's legal troubles have drawn the ire of fellow conservative nationalist American leader Donald Trump, leading him to implement a fifty percent tax on imports of Brazilian goods.

He is being detained in a national police facility in Brasilia and will have a imprisonment assessment on the following day.

Recent Legal Requests

It was only on Friday that the former president's lawyers asked the Top Court to allow him to complete his entire prison term under domestic detention, with tracking devices.

They also requested that Bolsonaro be allowed to leave his home for healthcare, saying he demanded ongoing care for respiratory ailments and other illnesses.

Details of Guilty Verdict

He was found guilty of heading a scheme aimed at keeping him in power after he lost the national vote to his political opponent, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

Supreme Court justices said that he knew of a scheme which involved plans to kill Lula and his running partner, Geraldo Alckmin, and to detain and kill Justice Moraes - the High Court judge who has been overseeing his judicial proceedings.

The conspiracy was thwarted because it didn't receive the support of the armed forces officials. His successor was took office without issue on 1 January 2023.

But a seven days after, on the eighth of January, many his followers attacked and damaged public facilities in the federal district, Brasília.

The law enforcement stepped in and around 1,500 people were taken into custody.

The magistrates found that the protesters had been provoked by Bolsonaro whose scheme, they said, was for the national armed forces to intervene, reestablish control and bring him back to power.

At the time, the legal team called the 27 years and three months sentence "absurdly excessive.

He was also barred from campaigning for office until the year 2060 - eight years later after the end of his sentence.

The one-time head of state called the legal proceedings a political persecution and said it was designed to prevent him running in the next presidential race.
